Candidates casting a net for votes via MySpace

Amashi Padnani of the New Jersey Star-Ledger takes a look at the new way of campaigning- the use of the Internet and particularly MySpace.Com to get the word out and stay in touch with supporters. Our campaign has had a presence on MySpace since August, and we are mentioned in the article.

Medical Marijuana

There are many policy areas where you will hear us we talk about which subjects are a matter for the 50 State governments to decide for themselves, and which subjects are appropriate (and constitutionally acceptable) for the Federal government to step in and create policy. The use of majijuana in supervised treatment of medical conditions is a place we feel belongs in the hands of those directly concerned, not in Federal legislation.

Vista Vs. Leopard: Geek Speak

I always get excited when Microsoft is close to releasing a new operating system. I remember being in the beta program for Windows 95, and later Windows 98. Each was a giant step forward in computing, and lived up to the hype. But what did I have to compare that to… Windows 3.1- anything is an improvement from that! I passed on Windows 2000 and Millennium (luckily so!) but I was right there again for XP. I have been following the trials and tribulations of Longhorn/Vista with much interest… but a few months ago, I tried the competition. You know what? It was a change, but OS X is a fine, if not great operating system.

Debating An Idea

The Presidential debates, as staged by the Commission on Presidential Debates (CPD), are a gross misrepresentation of fairness and openness on the American people, and a disgrace to the idea of open elections. Of course, a third-party, not-well-known Presidential candidate would say that, wouldn’t I? But this is not just some wild conspiracy theory put forth by a disgruntled dark horse candidate, and I am not the only one saying it. Please take a look at Open Debates (dot org) and see what they have to say, and what they have documented. After reading through their list of facts, I would find it hard to believe that any American is not outraged by this charade of the election process.

Our Campaign Ethics

We have made our position clear- we are for cleaning up campaigns and taking the dirt out of politics. Saying this is one thing, but what is it we mean? In this, as other areas, we will lead by example; our campaign will be the very model of the reforms we propose. We will live and campaign by these high ideals. We will make our ideals public and make our one-sided pact with the American people. In politics, talk is cheap. We offer these promises today, a barometer to measure what kind of people are we. Watch us, and judge us by our actions, and whether we keep our promises before the election...

October Get Out The Vote

Last month, The Next Prez; ran a poll between the various candidates for President, and I am happy to report that we came in second for Independents, with over 100 votes overall. Good for our first month in the poll, but I would like to do better- much better!

You can vote now in the October poll, and we hope you will. You can vote in various polls- Democrat, Republican, Green, etc... but we hope you will mainly go and vote in the Independent poll... and vote for us. And get your friends to vote, too- we want to come in first this month!

Or, if you would rather just push a button and be done with it, here you go- press here:

Thanks, and thank you for your support!

Are We REALLY That Far Apart?

I am really beginning to like MySpace. At first, I did not understand it, and it was a chore. Now we have grown our friends list enough I am getting some really good comments and input. We just hit 2000 friends (if you are not on our list yet, what are you waiting for???), so we are really starting to have a presence. But what really has me excited is the fact that we are getting comments- and good ones- from smart, thinking and concerned citizens. And not just from people on the left or the right… but from all sides. It looks like our goal of finding a middle ground which appeals to a broad spectrum of ideologies is working.

Clinton Vs. Wallace: Loser Us

I doubt there are too many people that are not aware of the confrontation last Friday on Fox News between President Bill Clinton and Chris Wallace; the confrontation has gotten more air time than the actual discussion. Media coverage that I have seen is split; either defending Clinton, praising him for standing up against an unfair onslaught from the right, or those that attack what the ex-President had to say as “more” Clinton lies. I do not care who is right or wrong, but I think it is important that a journalist ask though questions...

Look For The Union Label

The other day, I received a note on the MySpace account. The e-mailer took our campaign to task for not using union shops for printing and publishing our bumper stickers and buttons. In and of itself, this is hardly worth mentioning. But this points to a larger issue, and something that gets to one of the key points of our campaign…
